Simon III (Sponheim-Kreuznach)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Simon III (* after 1330; † August 30, 1414 ) was the last ruling count of the front county of Sponheim from the Sponheim-Kreuznach line and by marriage Count von Vianden .

Live and act

Simon III was the only son of Count Walram . Simon Maria von Vianden married as early as 1348 and thus brought the Sponheim-Kreuznach house with the city and county of Vianden an important territorial acquisition. In 1371 Simon was imprisoned for several years, which he could only leave after paying a large ransom. Due to the early death of his son Walram, the Counts of Sponheim-Kreuznach died out in the male line. Simon III was buried in the choir of the parish church of Kreuznach . His grave inscription, which has now been lost, was still there in 1839.
