Simon Maris
Simon Willem Maris (born May 21, 1873 in The Hague , † January 22, 1935 in Amsterdam ) was a Dutch painter and art dealer .
life and work
Simon Maris was the son and student of the painter Willem Maris . He lived and worked in The Hague, Weesp , Antwerp (after 1895), Brussels , Amsterdam and after 1902 in Paris . He studied for two and a half years at the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten in The Hague and two years at the Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Antwerp. Maris made a one-year study trip to Paris and another to Italy. In 1901 he went on a trip to Spain with his friend Piet Mondrian and portrayed him in 1906 on the Gein River.
Maris' works, which mainly consist of portraits of women, are exhibited in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and the Museum voor Moderne Kunst in Arnhem .
