Little is known about the early life of Pallas. It is known that he was professor of surgery at the Collegium medico-chirurgicum and the first surgeon at the Charité . His sons include the natural scientist Peter Simon Pallas and the surgeon August Friedrich Pallas , who like his father was a professor of surgery at the Collegium medico-chirurgicum.
