Simon Rožman

Simon Rožman (born April 6, 1983 in Celje ) is a Slovenian former football player and current coach.

Athletic career

Rožman comes from the youth of NK Celje . In 2000 he moved up as a junior player in the club's professional squad, but could not assert himself. In 2002 he therefore moved to the then third division club NK Mons Claudius , with whom he was relegated to the regional amateur area at the end of the first season at the club. In 2004 he returned to the third division when he joined the newly promoted NK Kovinar Štore . He played there for several years.

Rožman later returned to NK Celje, where he initially worked in youth work as a trainer and later as the head of the youth academy. At the end of the 2013/14 season, he was promoted to head coach at the club in relegation battle, making him the youngest coach in the history of the Slovenian championship. After the successful relegation, he led the team in the following season to the runner-up behind record champions and defending champions NK Maribor . He was released in September 2015.

In September 2016, Rožman hired the league rival NK Domžale . In 2017 he and the team won the Slovenian Cup when NK Olimpija Ljubljana was defeated 1-0 by a goal from Gaber Dobrovoljc in the final . He was fired at the beginning of September 2019, just under four weeks later the Croatian club HNK Rijeka signed him as head coach as the successor to Igor Bišćan .
