Simon Schropp was the son of the Nuremberg businessman Simon Schropp, founder of the company Simon Schropp & Comp . in Berlin. He continued to run this company, which was based in Heiligegeiststrasse 23, after the death of his father. His family was closely connected to the Wolff bookseller family in Augsburg. He was married to Anna Justina geb. Wolff and his sister Sabina Schropp (1754-1821) was married to the bookseller Franz Xaver Wolff († 1803). Simon Schropp was of the Catholic faith and for a time head of St. Hedwig's Church. Schropp also had a branch at the headquarters of the German book trade in Leipzig, Thomaskirchhof 95. His publishing and bookselling activities were very extensive. His field of work was primarily tailored to the art trade and maps. But soon he also began selling Nuremberg and Leipzig globes. Between 1810 and 1813 he then acquired the publishing rights to the globes from Leipzig master Christian Gottlieb Riedig (1768-1853). In doing so, he relocated the center of globe production from Nuremberg to Berlin. After his death, the 16-year-old son Leopold did not continue the business. The widow remained a partner in the company.
