Simone Giacchetta (born July 28, 1969 in Ancona ) is a former Italian football player and current sports director .

Player career

Simone Giacchetta started his career with Civitanovese Calcio at the age of 17. From 1986 to 1988 he played with this club in Serie C2 , the fourth highest league in Italian football. After an assignment in his first season, he developed into a regular player in the second year and played 32 games. He was then committed by the first division club SSC Napoli , which achieved its greatest successes to date at the end of the 80s. The squad at the time included the world star Diego Maradona . There was also great competition for the young Giacchetta in the defensive position with players like Giancarlo Corradini or Ciro Ferrara , against which he could not prevail. At the end of the season, his team won the UEFA Cup in the final against VfB Stuttgart . In order to get more playing time again, Simone Giacchetta switched to third division Taranto Calcio in 1989 . With that club he managed promptly promoted to the Serie B .

In 1991 the defender moved back to the third division and signed with Reggina Calcio . In the following nine years, as a traditional central defender, he managed both promotion to Serie B and in 1999 promotion to Serie A with his club . In the 1999/2000 season Reggina reached 12th place in the table as a newcomer to the league. After this season Giacchetta went to the second division CFC Genoa , where he played until 2003. He then returned to Reggina Calcio and played eight more games in Serie A in 2003/04 . At the second division AC Turin Simone Giacchetta had the last job in his active career.

Career as a functionary

After his football career , the former defender received the post of junior coordinator at his long-time club Reggina Calcio before he became sports director in 2010 .
