The Simpson Head is a striking point of land towering up to 1065 m on the Lassiter coast of the Palmerland on the Antarctic Peninsula . It is 6 km northwest of Cape Kidson on the north bank of New Bedford Inlet .
Participants of the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939–1941) photographed them from the air in December 1940. Scientists from the Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (1947–1948) made additional aerial photographs and carried out on-site measurements in collaboration with the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey (FIDS). The FIDS named it after the British meteorologist George Clarke Simpson (1878-1965), participant of the Terra Nova expedition of the British polar explorer Robert Falcon Scott .
