Simulacrum is a Finnish progressive and power metal band from Turku that was formed in 1999.

history

The history of the band goes back to 1999, when fifteen-year-old Christian "Chrism" Pulkkinen, influenced by Stratovarius and Dream Theater , composed the first songs. The songs were later released almost unchanged under the names Hammerhead and Battle Within . Pulkkinen had studied classical piano since he was six. Other members were also fifteen year old Olli Hakala on bass and Christian's brother Nicholas “Solomon” Pulkkinen as guitarist. Within the next few years "Simulacrum" was found as the band name. In the next few years the drummer Markus Wallasvaara and the singer Niklas Broman joined them. In early 2011 Wallasvaara left the cast and Samuel Hildén was found to replace him. In 2012 the debut album The Master and the Simulacrum was released in an edition of 500 copies. Its recordings had already taken place in 2007, with Christian Pulkkinen also mixing and producing the album. The band was then voted Band of the Month by Inferno magazine . In 2015 the second album Sky Divided was released via Inverse Records . In their career, the band has performed with Seventh Wonder , Machinae Supremacy , Adamantra , Masterstroke , Oddland and Status Minor , among others .

style

YngwieViking from metal-temple.com wrote in his review of The Master and the Simulacrum that it was a mixture of Nevermore , Liquid Tension Experiment and Shadow Gallery with a slight Power Metal touch . The atmosphere is dark and pessimistic with depressive melodies and the interplay of the instruments is almost reminiscent of jazz rock . Bernsen from stormbringer.at described the music by Sky Divided as a mixture of progressive and power metal, so that it is suitable for fans of Symphony X as well as for fans of Sonata Arctica . The group avoids sounding like a copy of these bands, however.
