history

Notre-Dame church was built in the 12th century as part of a priory of the Benedictine Abbey of La Chaise-Dieu , which had settled in Beaumont in the 11th century. The church has been used by Protestants since the Reformation . In the course of the Counter Reformation, the building was set on fire and returned to the Catholics after the Edict of Nantes in 1598. After the French Revolution, the church became a simultaneous church in 1806 and a wall has since separated the nave used by the Protestants from the choir room used by the Roman Catholic community. In January 2008 the wall was removed and replaced by a hinged wooden wall.
