Sina Ataeian Dena (born November 4, 1983 in Ahvaz , Iran ) is an Iranian director , writer and film producer .

Life

Sina Ataeian Dena was born and raised in Ahvaz , Iran during the First Gulf War . He first studied physics at the KNToosi University of Technology Tehran , but dropped out to study film at the Sooreh University of Art in Tehran. Ataeian Dena began working in the film sector while still a student, making his first animated short films, video clips for theater productions, making video installations, working as a visual effects supervisor and in developing material for computer games. With his diploma thesis The influence of comic books on cinema , he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 2008 . In 2009 his animated short Especially Music won the international competition of the Tehran International Short Film Festival . Ataeian Dena then worked as a writer and director for commercials, documentaries and TV series. Ataeian Dena also made his first full-length feature film Paradise (original title Ma dar Behesht ). He was responsible for the script and direction and co-produced the film with his production partners Yousef Panahi and Amir Hamz. The shooting took place over a period of three years, as the film received neither official permission to shoot in Iran nor financial support from the state. Paradise is a study of society and is about a young woman in today's Tehran who works as a teacher at a girls' school in the suburbs and is becoming increasingly lethargic as a result of the subliminal structural violence that is experienced every day. The drama is the first part of a Tehran trilogy with the overarching theme of violence and celebrated its world premiere in August 2015 in the main competition of the 68th Festival del film Locarno , was nominated for the Golden Leopard and was awarded the Ecumenical Jury Prize and Swatch Art Peace Hotel Award . Afterwards, Paradise was shown at numerous international film festivals, won other awards and was nominated for various awards. Among other Jury President handed Francis Ford Coppola at the 15th International Film Festival Marrakech Sina Ataeian Dena the price of the jury .

In 2018, Sina Ataeian Dena exhibited photo works and the video installation Altering Realities in the exhibition Hidden Secret - strategies of the hidden alongside works by the artist Francis Alys and the ! Mediengruppe Bitnik in the art gallery Villa Merkel . Ataeian Dena 2018 showed the video installation Home as part of the Studio Bosporus exhibition at the Museum für Gegenwart Hamburger Bahnhof Berlin.

In 2016, 2017 and 2018, Sina Ataeian Dena received scholarships from the Goethe-Institut for the artist residency at the Tarabya Culture Academy in Istanbul. In 2018/2019 Sina Ataeian Dena is a scholarship holder of the Swatch Art Peace Hotel in Shanghai.
