The Symphonic Choir Aachen e. V. is the oldest concert choir in Aachen .

history

It was founded in 1820 as a singing academy . In the years from 1825 until the end of the Niederrheinische Musikfest in 1957 he was the festival choir at the Aachen concerts. Since 1854, he continues to deny establishment of the Aachen Municipal Orchestra and with the introduction of urban symphony concerts as Urban singing group , later Urban choir Aachen from 1820 , this concert series. In the time of its existence the choir has developed a considerable part of the choral literature in the area of oratorios , masses and requies , but also in the secular area. The repertoire ranges from the baroque to the modern .

The choir is a mixed amateur choir with around 100 men and women. The rehearsal is carried out by the choir director of the Aachen City Theater .
