Sint Nicolaaskerk (Brouwershaven)
The Grote of Sint Nicolaaskerk , ( German Große or Sankt-Nikolaus-Kirche ) is a late-Gothic Protestant-Union parish church in Brouwershaven (municipality of Schouwen-Duiveland ) in the Dutch province of Zeeland . Its considerable size as a civic church testifies to the importance of Brouwershaven in the late Middle Ages.
history
The first parish church in Brouwershaven was originally dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul . First a choir was built around 1300, to which a single-nave nave was added around 1325 . Around 1400 work began on building an arched ambulatory in a basilica shape around the choir . A chapel wreath of five side chapels was added to it. In addition, a transept was built . Around 1500 the old nave was finally replaced by today's hall church , the side aisles of which are only slightly lower than the nave. The aisles connect directly to the north and south transepts.
In 1540, on the eve of the Reformation in Zeeland, the patronage of the church was changed and from then on the sacred building was placed under the patronage of St. Nicholas of Myra , the patron saint of seafarers. In 1573, the Reformation was finally introduced in Brouwershaven. Today the Sint Nicolaaskerk belongs to the United Protestant Church in the Netherlands .
organ
The organ was built in 1968 and 1980 by the organ building company Van Vulpen. The instrument has registers on two manuals . The pedal (Cd 1 ) is attached. The actions are mechanical.
