Sipho Mabona

Sipho Mabona (born January 11, 1980 in Lucerne ) is a Swiss origami artist. He currently lives in Lucerne. His repertoire of origami figures is very large and ranges from classic paper planes to people, animals, houses and fantasy objects.

Life

Mabona folded his first paper airplane when he was five . At the age of 20 he started to create his own designs. This is how he discovered the art of origami .

Due to the versatile characteristics of paper and the possibility of folding it into a wide variety of objects, Mabona has already developed origamis for advertising. For example, for Asics , Mabona folded origami objects for entire landscapes , a stadium and a city , as well as people , shoes and animals such as birds , octopuses and tigers , which were animated for the advertising film "Origami in the pursuit of perfection". In addition, Sipho Mabona appears at various events and gives workshops .

In 2000 Mabona took part in the Red Bull Paper Wings World Final in Salzburg . Mabona's foldable creations have already been shown in galleries around the world . a. exhibited in New York , Vancouver and Tokyo . The short film Origami in the pursuit of perfection , for which Mabona designed the origamis, has received several internationally renowned prizes. Sipho Mabona was the first foreign artist whose creations were featured on the cover of the JOAS conference book . In 2009 Mabona was an invited guest at the 21st International Origami Germany Meeting in Berlin and at the Spanish Origami Convention in Alicante . In addition, Mabona has already appeared in television programs such as the late night show “ Aeschbacher ”, the program “ Einstein ” and also on Television Tokyo.
