Sitara Achiksai

Sitara Achiksai (also called Sitara Achakzai) (* around 1957 in Afghanistan ; † April 12, 2009 in Kandahar ) was a German-Afghan politician and suffragette .

Sitara Atschiksai, a trained teacher, had lived with her family in Germany since the early 1980s. In Bergisch Gladbach , she and her husband, a doctor of chemistry and university lecturer, were involved in an association for literacy, vocational training and infrastructure development in southern Afghanistan. The money raised was used to open schools in Kandahar and support Afghan families to enable their children to attend school.

In 2001 she returned to Afghanistan with her husband and was involved in the reconstruction of the country, in particular for the rights of women in Afghanistan. She was a provincial councilor and a member of the regional parliament in Kandahar Province .

Achikzai was shot dead in front of her home on April 12, 2009 by four men on motorcycles. The radical Islamic Taliban confessed to the news agency Agence France Presse (AFP) for the murder of the politician.
