Sitochori ( Greek Σιτοχώρι ( n. Sg. )) Is a village in the municipality of Achinos in the municipality of Visaltia with 531 inhabitants (2011).

history

The village was previously called Tzintzos (Τζίντζος), the name being traced back to the old city of Tintos . Ancient coins found in this area bear the inscription Tintinoi. The first written mention was made in 1569 as Tsintsa. The name Tzintzos was changed to Sitochori on July 19, 1928, when the residents began to grow wheat on a large scale ( ancient Greek σῖτος sitos ). Until 1997 Sitochori was an independent municipality, then it came to Achinos, in 2010 finally to Achinos to the municipality of Visaltia.
