The Niers at the level of the Sittard district

The Sittard is an agricultural district of the city of Viersen in North Rhine-Westphalia. The place borders on the districts of Alt- Süchteln , Rahser , Clörath and Hagen . In the west the Sittard is bounded by the Süchtelner heights , in the east by the Niersbruch . The still recognizable route of the north canal and the route of the Schluffs , an old railway connection , ran through the Sittard area . An international cycling route, Fietsallee on the North Canal, now runs over this former railway line in the Sittard area .

The development of the place stretches mainly along the two main streets, Rheinstraße and Mosterzstraße. To the east of Rheinstrasse there are smaller residential areas that have developed around existing homesteads. To the north of Mosterzstrasse is a residential area that was built in the late 1980s / early 1990s. The local elementary school, the Catholic Martinsschule and two kindergartens are located on Mosterzstraße. The construction of a parish church was also planned at this point, and a church building association existed for this purpose. However, this project did not go beyond planning. Active associations are the St. Sebastianus Brotherhood of 1407 and the Martinsverein.
