Sixtus Lanner

Sixtus Lanner (born May 12, 1934 in Wildschönau , Tyrol ) is an Austrian politician and former director of the Bauernbund . From 1976 to 1982 he was General Secretary of the ÖVP .

Life

Sixtus Lanner was a farm worker in Wildschönau until he was 20 years old. In the years 1954–56 he attended the Higher Federal College for Alpine Agriculture in Seefeld in Tyrol and then the Vienna University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences , where he graduated in 1960 with a Dipl.-Ing. graduated. After one year of study at the University of Illinois (USA) and two more at the Vienna University for World Trade , he completed his studies in 1964 with a dissertation at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences as Dr. rer. nat. from.

As a commercial and agricultural engineer, he worked at the presidential conference of the Austrian Chambers of Agriculture , became head of the Agricultural Policy and Integration Department and was director of the Austrian Farmers' Union from 1969–76 . He was elected to the National Council in 1971 and was a member of it until 1996.

From 1976 to 1982 he acted as ÖVP general secretary under the federal party leaders Josef Taus and Alois Mock and was vice president of the EDU (Union of European Christian Democrats ) during the same period .

In the mid-1970s, Lanner was a member of the Austrian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and in 1988 took over the chairmanship of the Agricultural Commission.

Sixtus Lanner is married and has three children.
