Publication history and issues

The first edition came out in Copenhagen in the autumn of 1827 and appeared there until 1890, after which Reykjavík became the place of publication. Initially, news texts of political content from abroad were published similar to the articles in the previous publication Íslenzk sagnablöð , the organ of the Icelandic Literary Society, of which the first editor of the magazine Finnur Magnússon was one of the founding members . It was not until 1900 that it became a scientific and cultural magazine.

The editions of the years 1827 to 1940 are available in digitized form.
