from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Skalunda is a church village (kyrkby) in Sweden . It is located on the Kålland peninsula , which juts into the Vänern from the south , about ten kilometers northwest of the city of Lidköping . Skalunda belongs to the municipality of Lidköping in the province of Västra Götalands län .

Skalunda was a regional center in prehistoric times and in the Middle Ages. This is indicated above all by the Skalunda Hög , the largest mound in Västergötland , with a diameter of over 60 meters and a height of seven meters . Based on the finds, it is dated to the 8th century. In the Middle Ages there was a royal court in Skalunda, and the Romanesque church of Skalunda, built in the 11th or 12th century, indicates the earlier importance of the place.

Next to the hill is a judge's ring . There are two rune stones near the church in the village . Kung Orres grav is also located on the Kålland peninsula .
