The Skanderbeg Square ( Macedonian Плоштад Скендербег Ploštad Skenderbeg ; Albanian  Sheshi i Skënderbeut ) is a square in Skopje , the capital Nordmazedoniens , is built on the 17th since January 2012 Design. The square is located within the Opština Čair . It is named after the Albanian Ottoman fighter Skanderbeg ( Turkish İskendey Bey ).

Redesign

The square is part of the government project Skopje 2014 . The total construction costs are estimated at ten million euros. The construction work should be finished by 2014.

Skanderbeg Square will cover an area of ​​28,000 square meters and will extend from the Philharmonic and the Opera to the Old Bazaar . The Goce Delčev Boulevard is covered in this area. An already existing statue by Skanderbeg is the most important design-structural element. Aside from an amphitheater and a fountain, the square will also offer a lot of open space. A parking garage is planned underneath.

The newly designed square was partially opened at the end of August 2017. An oversized mosaic has been added with historically significant personalities from the common history of the Albanians . Among other things, Mother Teresa , the Frashëri brothers and Adem Jashari are depicted on it.
