The Skibotnelva is a river in the municipality Storfjord in the Fylke Troms og Finnmark . It has its origin in the lake Gálggojávri on the border with Finland . The river runs in a north-westerly direction through the Skibotn valley and flows into the Lyngenfjord near Skibotn . The Skitbotnelva is 73.7 km long and has a catchment area of ​​763.34 km². The mean discharge at the mouth is 19.88 m³ / s.

The largest tributaries are Didnojohka , Rovvejohka , Lavkajohka , Norddalselva and Rihpojohka .

The European route 8 runs along the river to the Finnish border.

Use of hydropower

The catchment area of ​​the Skibotnelva is used to generate electricity from hydropower. There are the hydropower stations Skibotn power plant and Lavkajohka power plant .
