Skibotn ( Finnish : Markkina or Yykeänperä; North Sami : Ivgubahta) is a village with approx. 700 inhabitants in the municipality of Storfjord , located on the southeastern bank of the Lyngenfjord in the northern Norwegian province of Troms og Finnmark .
Residents
The inhabitants of Skibotn are for the most part either descendants of the Kven and Sámi people or immigrants from southern and central Norway or their descendants.
The eminent Sami writer Nils-Aslak Valkeapää spent a large part of his life in Skibotn.
climate
Skibotn is known for its dry mesoclimate with often clear skies and the calcareous pine forests with rare orchids . Because of the climate there is an astrophysical observatory located in Skibotn.
