Peaks and rocks
The Austrian mountaineers Christoph Höbenreich, K. Pichler and P. Koller climbed a summit and a rock colossus (monolith) of the massif on November 21, 2009 and suggested names for them:
No. | Surname | height | Coordinates | description |
---|---|---|---|---|
729 | Peak of silence | 2550 m | 71 ° 55 ' S , 9 ° 3' E | Highly visible summit with ridges and rock pillars on the north flank |
728 | Stronghold | 2528 m | 71 ° 55 ' S , 9 ° 2' E | seemingly indomitable monolith |
Höbenreich proposed the names to the Standing Committee for Geographical Names (StAGN) of the German-speaking countries on February 16, 2010 ; The latter approved the proposals on April 28, 2010, whereupon they were approved on June 1, 2012 by the Austrian body responsible for the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) . However , they were not included in the SCAR's Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica directory .
