Sky Radio was a private radio broadcaster that was receivable in Hessen and originally belonged to the News Corporation group (including BSkyB , Sky News ). Since February 2006 the international Sky Radio Group and thus also Sky Radio Hessen has been part of a consortium led by the Dutch Telegraaf Media Groep . The station, studio and editorial office were located in Kassel . This made Sky Radio the only private broadcaster based in Northern Hesse.

Sky Radio went on air in Hessen on December 24, 2001 as a 24-hour program. At the beginning the program could only be broadcast on only one VHF frequency in Kassel, as additional VHF transmission capacities were not yet available at that time. Sky Radio Hessen was able to expand its frequency network over the course of time and most recently had 23 VHF frequencies. A total of around 40 permanent and freelance employees worked for Sky Radio Hessen.

Sky Radio Hessen was founded as a non-stop music broadcaster without moderation. The Dutch parent station "Sky Radio 101 FM" has been broadcasting a corresponding concept since 1988. The news created its own newsroom. On January 11, 2005, however, there was a change of image: Sky Radio Hessen started with a new program concept and moderated programs. The most recent frequency activation took place on January 16, 2006. Since then, Sky Radio has also been received on the 101.4 MHz frequency in Wiesbaden and Mainz.

On July 6th 2007 Telegraaf Media Groep took over 85% of Sky Radio Groep. 10% is owned by Vereniging Veronica and 5% is owned by management. In November 2007, the German radio holding Regiocast announced that it had acquired 49% of the shares in Sky Radio Hessen. Regiocast holds investments in more than 30 primarily German private broadcasting and media companies. 51% remain in the hands of the Sky Radio Group controlled by Telegraaf Media Groep. The national marketer is AS&S Radio GmbH , based in Frankfurt am Main. In addition, Sky Radio founded the HESSEN14-49KOMBI together with the private broadcaster Main FM, which is also based in Hessen .

Sky Radio Hessen was discontinued on August 5, 2008. The successor station was now called Radio Bob , which is oriented towards rock music .
