Slettnes fyr
Slettnes fyr is the northernmost lighthouse on mainland Europe. It is located about three kilometers north of Gamvik in the Norwegian province of Troms og Finnmark .
history
The tower was built in 1905, is 39 meters high and is the only cast iron one in Finnmark .
During the Second World War , it was completely destroyed by German troops in 1944; after the war it was rebuilt until 1948.

Due to the fact that no month reaches an average temperature of over 10 ° C, the climate of the region can already be described as polar despite the comparatively mild winters . According to the Köppen and Geiger climate classification, this means classification in the tundra climate as type ET.
