Slick Jones
Wilmore "Slick" Jones (born April 13, 1907 in Roanoke (Virginia) , † November 2, 1969 in New York City ) was an American jazz musician ( drums , vibraphone ).
Live and act
Jones initially played briefly with Fletcher Henderson in 1934 and 1936 . He became known nationwide through his membership in Fats Wallers Rhythm (1936–41), with which he went on numerous tours; he also took part in recordings of Don Redman , Lionel Hampton and Una Mae Carlisle . After leaving Waller's band in 1941, he worked with Stuff Smith , Eddie South , Claude Hopkins, and Hazel Scott . In the post-war years he played with Don Byas and Gene Sedric (1946-1954), Sidney Bechet , Sidney De Paris (1954-1955), in his later years with Doc Cheatham , Eddie Durham and in late 1964 with Eddie Barefield . Slick Jones participated in 75 recording sessions from 1936 to 1966.
