The Slontschen , Upper Sorbian Słónčna hora , also called Slontschenberg , Schlunzenberg or Slonschenberg , is a 220.4 meter high unwooded elevation in the Upper Lusatian region . The hill lies between the valleys of the Kotitz water and the Särka water. The villages Lauske and Särka are at the foot of the Slontschen . The Lausker Lindenallee runs south of the summit.
The German name is derived from the Sorbian and means something like "Sonnenberg".
Like the Strohmberg to the east, the Slontschen in the summit area consists of nepheline-containing basalt and forms the remainder of a tertiary basalt cover. The rock used to be mined in a small quarry.
Except for a few individual trees and shrubs, especially linden trees , the Slontschen is bare. Due to the sunny location and good soil, warmth-loving plant species thrive on the hill. The hill is protected as an area natural monument.
