The Slovenian Reading Room in the Science Center for East and Southeast Europe, Regensburg was a joint facility of the University of Regensburg , the Republic of Slovenia and the Institute for East and Southeast European Studies in Regensburg. It existed from mid-2009 to early 2014.

purpose

It served to convey the science and culture of Slovenia in Germany. The establishment of the Slovenian Reading Room in Regensburg was based on the long-term cooperation between the Republic of Slovenia and the Federal Republic of Germany in the context of the operation of the German Reading Room in Ljubljana. In addition, the University of Regensburg has the oldest university partnership with the University of Ljubljana .

history

The Slovenian Reading Room was opened on July 1st, 2009. It was based on a cooperation between the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia - represented in particular by the National and University Library Ljubljana , the University Library Regensburg and the Institute for East and Southeast European Studies. This means that the German Library CTK in Ljubljana , which has existed since 1995, had a counterpart in Regensburg. On January 15, 2014, the Slovenian Reading Room ceased operations.

Facilities

The reading room was the only scientific and cultural institution of its kind in Germany to offer a forum for anyone interested in Slovenian history , literature and language. He saw himself as a mediator of Slovenian culture to Germany and as a bridge builder between the people in the two countries.
