The Smaaland Cove is a small bay on the southeast coast of South Georgia . It is located 1.5 km west of Doubtful Bay . Your entrance is largely taken through Wessex Island .
Discovery Investigations scientists named the bay described here as Doubtful Bay . The name Smaaland Bay was assigned to the bay 1.5 km to the west on their map. The South Georgia Survey reported in the course of surveys that it carried out between 1951 and 1952 that the naming on site in exactly the opposite direction was common. While the name Doubtful Bay was retained, the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee made an adaptation for the local bay in the toponym in 1955 .
