Otto Brunken

Otto Brunken (born July 22, 1950 in Oldenburg ; † March 30, 2017 in Cologne ) was a German literary scholar .

Brunken studied modern and old German, Slavic and theater studies at the universities of Cologne, Berlin and Bochum . He received his doctorate in Frankfurt am Main , was an academic senior counselor and adjunct professor at the Institute for German Language and Literature II at the University of Cologne. His research areas were in particular the history of literature, and he dedicated his commitment to the next generation of academics.

Brunken retired in November 2015.

He was regarded as a recognized expert in children's and youth literature and headed the department for children's and youth media research (ALEKI) at Cologne University. From 2003 to 2006 Brunken was chairman of the jury of critics for the German Youth Literature Prize , in 2017 he received the Volkacher Taler of the German Academy for Children's and Youth Literature .

Brunken died in 2017 at the age of 66. His grave is in the Melaten cemetery in Cologne (hall 4 in O no. 112a).
