Ien Dales

Ien Dales (born October 18, 1931 in Arnhem , † January 10, 1994 in Utrecht ) was a Dutch politician of the Partij van de Arbeid .

Life

Dales worked for the “Church and World” foundation for around 20 years. Between 1977 and 1981 she was head of the social services in Rotterdam, where she was in close contact with the politician and then councilor for social affairs Elizabeth Schmitz . She studied andragogy at the Universiteit van Amsterdam .

From 1987 to 1989 she was the successor of Frans Hermsen mayor of Nijmegen . In the Van Agt II cabinet , she was State Secretary for Social Affairs and Labor. In the Lubbers III cabinet , she was the successor to Kees van Dijk as Minister of the Interior of the Netherlands until January 10, 1994. Dales died of a heart attack. In memory of her, the Dales Integrity Prize is awarded annually in the Netherlands.
