Smari ( Greek Σμάρι ( n. Sg. )) Is a small village on the Greek island of Crete in the municipality of Minoa Pediada , Kastelli district , and is located about 25 km southeast of the prefecture capital Heraklion . It is a popular tourist destination because of its traditional, unspoilt style .

In Smari one encounters the traditional old stone houses with the distinctive blue doors and the typical lifestyle of the Cretan rural population. In addition to a cheese dairy and a holiday apartment that can be rented, there are only two taverns , both of which are located in the center of the village.

The greatest sights of Smari are the Agios Georgos church on a hill immediately next to the village and an archaeological site in which an acropolis , which is to be dated to the preeminoic period, was found.
