Smile.dk (own spelling SMiLE.dk , sometimes also SMiLE-dk ) is a Swedish pop group. She was best known for the 1998 song Butterfly , which was used in the video game Dance Dance Revolution . Other well-known hits are Boys , Mr. Wonderful , Dancing All Alone and Koko Soko .

All members are from Sweden, but mainly sell their music in Denmark , which is the reason for the .dk behind the name. Although the group is not from Japan , they have now specialized in Japanese J-Pop .

The similarity to J-Pop also led to the fact that a large number of online sources often wrongly attributed their best-known song Butterfly to the Japanese pop singer Ayumi Hamasaki , although not a single song of her with purely English lyrics has been published to date.

The German pop band Cherona released their only album Sound of Cherona in 2009 with two covers. In addition to Golden Sky , Dragonfly was released as a single.

history

Veronica Almqvist and Nina Boquist founded the group under the name Smile and released the album Smile in 1998 . Great popularity arose in Japan. The most popular song Butterfly was licensed from Konami and used in the video game Dance Dance Revolution . So popular was the band that it was awarded a gold record for 100,000 sales in Japan . Nina Boquist left the group after the first album to start a solo career.

Malin Kernby came as a replacement. The band was renamed to Smile.dk. In 2005 Almqvist and Kernby got married and it was decided not to publish any new songs. Later it was announced to return, but without Kernby.

return

In 2008, producer Jamie Thompson announced on a popular Bubblegum music forum that the group would return with the worldwide single of Doki Doki . Kernby sang on these and other songs from the album Party Around The World . Hanna Stockzell can be heard on the other songs on the album.

Smile.dk (with Almqvist and Stockzell) sang live on August 9, 2008 at the San Japan in San Antonio, Texas . It was the first appearance in North America. This was followed by an appearance at the Sakura-Con 2009 in Seattle from April 10th to 12th, 2009.

In April 2010 it was announced that Hanna Stockzell will leave the group to make music alone. In the same year Cecilia Reiskog joined the group as a replacement. In 2011 the single Moshi Moshi was released, making it the first single with Cecilia.

In April 2013, the album Party Around The World , which was released for the first time in 2008, was re-released by the GlenDisc Records label .

In October 2013, Reiskog announced on Facebook that he would leave the group and concentrate privately on her family. At the same time it was announced that Veronica will continue singing alone. Almqvist is currently working on the announced album, which will be released in 2014. Veronica wrote in a comment that a new song will be called My Baby and that it will be included on the upcoming album.

Return in 2015

In the course of the comeback album with the working title "The Make Up-Collection", Smile.dk is touring China for eight concerts in October and November 2015.

At the end of October, Veronica announced in an update on Facebook that the comeback album entitled Forever will be released in 2015. The new website was launched on November 7, 2015 and a remix competition was held at the same time. Here , DJs have the opportunity to mix the three Smile.dk hits Butterfly , Boys and Our little Corner . With the launch of the website, the release of the first new single from the comeback album was announced. Our little Corner will be available from November 16, 2015 on iTunes, amazon and all major MP3 stores. The planned tour in China was postponed to the beginning of the year in connection with an appearance on a Chinese music show.

2016

On May 10, 2016, the Swedish label GlenDisc published a video on YouTube stating that the single "Koko Soko 2016" will be released on May 25, 2016. The song is a completely new recording of the song from the fifth studio album Party Around The World . In addition to a remaster of the original song, the single contains the new mix titled Koko Soko (2016 Radio Mix) four other versions.

2017

The new album Forever was released on July 17th, 2017. The album contains five well-known songs that were sung exclusively with Veronica. Six new songs are also included, including the single Our little Corner and the hit Butterfly as a new remix. Unlike previous announcements, it does not include a song called My Baby . Christian Wolf took over the production. The album is only available as MP3, while a physical release is not planned.

At the end of the year, the digital single Holidays was released , which includes the two songs A Merry Christmas and Happy New Year .

2018

In 2018 it suddenly became quiet at SMiLE.dk. Since then, the rumor has been spreading that it will be the end of the musical project after the album Forever did not succeed .
