The Smith River is a left tributary of the Liard River in Canada's Yukon Territory and British Columbia Province .

It forms the drain of Lower Toobally Lake in the south of the Yukon Territory and flows south across the provincial border into British Columbia. The place Smith River is not far from the river southwest of the confluence of Shaw Creek. About 2 kilometers above the confluence with the Liard River, the Smith River overcomes the 35 m high and 10 m wide Smith River Falls . The 254 hectare Smith River Falls-Fort Halkett Provinicial Park encompasses the last kilometers of the river including the Smith River Falls waterfall and the former location of the HBC trading post Fort Halkett . The British Columbia Highway 97 ( Alaska Highway ) crosses the river about a kilometer above the mouth.

The Smith River drains an area of ​​3740 km². The mean discharge is 26.4 m³ / s. The highest runoffs occur between May and July.
