The Sneaky Sound System is an Australian dance pop band from Sydney .

Band history

In 2001, Angus McDonald and Daimon Downey met. McDonald had previously been to New York and London as a musician, and Downey, who was born in South Africa, was actually aiming for a career as an artist. They founded a club in the capital of New South Wales and specialized in the otherwise less crowded nights from Sunday to Monday. They called it Sneaky Sunday.

It got so successful that they released a mix CD for Sony . Then they decided to make their own music and had a club hit called Sneaky Sound System in 2004 called Hip Hop Hooray . Then met in the search for a singer on Connie Mitchell, who had previously sung for the rock band Primary , until they broke up. Their first joint single release, I Love It , brought them great fame beyond the clubs and a first chart success as well as two nominations at the ARIA Awards, the music prize of the Australian record industry.

Then came the debut album Sneaky Sound System , which contained a mixture of dance and pop. Despite the single's recommendation, they couldn't find a label that would have been convinced by the album, but when they finally released it on their own with their own label Whack Records , it turned out to be very successful and a long-running hit all year round From 2007 to well into 2008, it remained in the Australian charts for over 60 weeks and was awarded triple platinum . The singles Pictures and UFO were also very successful, each staying in the single charts for over 30 weeks, even if they missed the top 10. Six ARIA Awards nominations followed, which led to victory in the categories Best Dance Release and Breakthrough Artist - Album . On July 7, 2007, they were among the representatives at the Australian concert at Live Earth .

As a result, they not only appeared in clubs across Australia, but were also engaged internationally and accompanied world stars such as Robbie Williams , Jamiroquai and the Scissor Sisters on their Australian tours. On their second album, which was simply titled "2", they worked with top British mixer and producer Mark Stent. In mid-2008 the album debuted at number 1 in Australia.

At the same time, the old single Pictures was also released in Great Britain and barely missed the top 75 of the UK charts. With UFO they jumped to number 52 at the end of 2008. This was followed in March 2009 by a short UK tour for the British release of I Love It and subsequently the album Sneaky Sound System .
