Snjolaug Sigurdson
Snjolaug Anna Sigurdson (born November 5, 1914 in Arborg / Manitoba , † August 22, 1979 in Winnipeg ) was a Canadian pianist and music teacher of Icelandic descent.
Sigurdson studied in Winnipeg with Eva Clare and later with Ernest Hutcheson and Muriel Kerr in New York. She made her New York Times Hall debut in 1950 and then gave concerts in the city's Town Hall and Carnegie Hall . Until her return to Winnipeg, she also taught in New York; Helen Choi and Carla Lother were among her students .
She has performed as a pianist with the CBC , playing Robert Schumann's piano concerto and Gabriel Fauré's ballad with the CBC Winnipeg Orchestra and César Franck's Symphonic Variations with the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra in Reykjavík (1968). A Snjolaug Sigurdson Memorial Piano Scholarship has been awarded since 1981 and is open to all pianists in the Manitoba Province. Snjolaug Sigurdson's cousin Agnes Helga Sigurdson also became known as a pianist.
