Snuff 102 is a 2007 Argentinian horror film directed by Mariano Peralta . Peralta also wrote the script and was active on camera. The film advertised on the DVD case with the slogan, "Dare to see more" and warned "absolutely disturbing and cruel".

action

A young reporter researched concealed a sensitive issue: snuff films . In her work, however, she herself becomes the victim of several men who want to make a snuff film.

The journalist and her companion are lured on the wrong track, brutally dragged out of the car, beaten up and taken to a house with other victims. The two managed to flee, but because of their injuries, they had little chance of actually escaping the perpetrators.

So they do not notice that their pursuers are always close on their heels and are watching them, although the journalist and her companion believe they are not being observed. On the contrary, their escape through the vast and remote area is captured by the pursuers with a video camera . Ultimately, the chase, the overpowering of the refugees and the subsequent rape of the journalist become part of the snuff film that the perpetrators are making.

Production notes, publication

The film was shot from different perspectives . In addition to the perspective from the victim's point of view, the viewer is also repeatedly confronted with what is happening from the perspective of the perpetrator and sees what is happening “through the video camera”.

When the film premiered in March 2007 at the Internacional de Cine de Mar del Plata Festival in Argentina, “the audience was so shocked that they left the hall . One of the audience even attacked the director ”. (Quote from: Snuff 102 - Blu-ray review of the horror films ). The DVD for the film Snuff 102 is now very difficult to get.

In Germany, the film was indexed at the end of May 2015 and placed on the so-called List B. The PCM label took on the film and released it in Mediabook on November 8, 2016. The DVD case contains the warning! Not suitable for sensitive viewers. In Russia he appeared under the title Снафф 102 .

criticism

The Swedish Fanatisk Film website states that the quality of the torture clips shown in the film is quite poor. There is clearly some kind of morality or message in the film, but it is questionable whether it will achieve its goal. One could, of course, wonder what is really most important to a potential buyer of such a film - knowing that what happens in the film actually happened and that the victims were really tortured, or is it enough to just admit the atrocities shown in the film see. This is certainly not a film in which torture is absolutely central, but nevertheless it shows filmed death scenes with a philosophy similar to the one about snuff. In addition, it is obvious that the film did not have a large budget to work with.

Adrian Halen of Horror News.net pointed out that the film caused a stir among the audience, as some had claimed that real scenes were also shown in the film. The film was also discussed controversially on the Internet in the category of disturbing films. The statement “not suitable for everyone” has never been more appropriate than in this case. Mind and eyes would have to deal with rather brutal images, even if the film actually has a story to offer. In Snuff 102 , harsh violence that goes to extremes is shown.

Jorgen Lundin wrote on Independent Flicks : “You want it extreme? You want it bad. I'll present you Snuff 102. ”The film only presents pain, suffering and agony. The violence in it is disgusting and repulsive, which also includes sequences like the killing of a pig or the torture of a monkey for scientific purposes and the inclusion of a clip that show a real decapitation in Iraq. All of this is deeply worrying. The special effects are excellent, the soundtrack and the camera work good, which contribute to a disturbing and creepy atmosphere.

Salvatore Capolupo found on lipercubo.it that people had spoken very badly about the film, that it had been shortened on the generally accessible film pages and not yet dubbed in Italian. In Italy, too, the Argentine production is rather notorious. In short, it is an extreme horror film that is not flawless in its implementation, violent and almost satisfied with what it shows. It is one of the most disturbing films of the new millennium. At the end of the day, it was found that the cameramen should be stoned because they were more guilty than the perpetrators of the crimes.

On The Flick Fanatic's Companion , the image quality was criticized as being quite poor, which would only be acceptable if it were a real snuff film. It is difficult to see whether this is the case, but probably not. There are moments when even the badly made fake effects cannot be hidden. On the other hand, there are also very dark and rough scenes that look real.

The Austrian side DVD Paradies states: “The horror from Argentina has reached an unprecedented climax with this film.” The images are “shocking”, the director knows how to “mercilessly shake” the viewer. It goes on to say that Snuff 102 is a "terrifying film about brutality, the literal knife edge and insignificance of which affects the innards of the audience."
