The Société Nationale des Transports Ferroviaires algériens (abbreviation SNTF ; Arabic الشركة الوطنية للنقل بالسكك الحديدية, DMG aš-Šarika al-waṭaniyya li-n-naql bi-s-sikak al-ḥadīdiyya ), in German National Algerian Railway Transport Company , is the state railway company of Algeria . The SNTF has a monopoly on rail traffic in Algeria.

history

The history of the Algerian railway begins with the colonization of the country by France .

The SNTF was founded on March 25, 1976 together with two other companies, the Société nationale chargée du renouvellement et de l'extension du réseau (SNERIF) for the construction and expansion of the railway infrastructure and the Société d'engineering et de réalization d'infrastructures ferroviaires (SIF) for the maintenance and modernization of the railway, founded by splitting up the Société nationale des chemins de fer algériens, founded in 1963 . The two additional companies later merged with the SNTF. The SNTF has a monopoly on rail operations in Algeria.

In 2005, the Agence nationale d'études et de suivi de la réalisation des investissements ferroviaires (ANESRIF, in German National Agency for the Development and Realization of Rail Projects) was created.
