Jens Soentgen

Jens Soentgen (* 1967 in Bensberg ) is a German chemist and philosopher . He is the author of (environmental) philosophical works and non-fiction books.

Life

Soentgen studied chemistry with a state examination in 1994 and received his doctorate with a thesis on the concept of substance in philosophy . Teaching assignments took him to various universities in Germany. In 1999/2000 he worked as a visiting professor for philosophy at the Universidade Federal de Goiás (Goiânia) in Brazil , in 2001 he worked as a visiting scholar at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul in Porto Alegre (Brazil). Since 2002 he has been the scientific director of the Environmental Science Center at the University of Augsburg . He completed his habilitation in philosophy at the University of Augsburg in 2015. Since 2016 he has been Adjunct Professor of Philosophy at Memorial University of Newfoundland in St. John's .

His book Self-Thinking! (Illustrations Nadia Budde) was 2004, his book Von den Sternen bis zum Tau (Illustrations Vitali Konstantinov ) was nominated for the German Youth Literature Award in 2011 . For How to philosophize with fire , he and Konstantinov received the award "Knowledge Book of the Year" from the magazine Bild der Wissenschaft in 2016 . For February 2016, the book had already received the Emys Non-Fiction Prize (monthly award) and also won the Emys Annual Emys for 2016.
