Lindl teaches and researches at the University of Augsburg. His topics are sustainable urban development , historical climate and glacier research , authenticity research , theory of cultural studies, Maieutics, interdisciplinary research , design and art theory , and environmental humanities.
In the trilogy Gestalten des Gestalten, Lindl developed a theory and method for analyzing and describing human products. According to Lindl's theory, people have three "modes of design" at their disposal: 1. Either they consciously leave what has become as it is ("naked design"). 2. He makes what has become disappear forcibly through a completely new design ("blinding design"). 3. He tries to think further about what has become and to develop it further ("appropriate design"). The three volumes of his main work Trilogie des Gesteln are accordingly: Naked , Blinding , Corresponding .
