Sarcotesta
The Sarkotesta (Greek sarx = 'meat'), occasionally also written Sarcotesta , is part of the seed coat in botany . It is a fleshy layer around the seed that is formed by an integument or parts of it. It always occurs together with a hard internal sclerotesta . They are common in Cycadopsida and Ginkgophyta , but also in some Bedecktsamern , such as. B. found in magnolia and Connaraceae . In the Bedecktsamern it is considered a possibly original feature.
