Sofa Landver ( Hebrew סופה לנדבר; * October 28, 1949 in Leningrad , Soviet Union ) is an Israeli politician . She is a member of the Knesset for the nationalist party Jisra'el Beitenu and was Minister for Immigrant Absorption from 2009 to 2015 and from 2016 to November 2018 . According to the radio station Voice of Russia , she was the first ex-Soviet citizen in the government of Israel.

Life

Landver was born in what was then Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg ) and emigrated to Israel in 1979. She holds an MA and is a talk therapist . She worked on the Ashdod City Council , was the director of the Ashdod Development Company and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Jewish Agency .

In the 1996 election she was elected to the Knesset from the list of the Israeli Workers' Party Avoda . In 1999 she was re-elected to Parliament for Avoda through Allianz One Israel and served as Deputy Minister for Transport and Road Safety between August 12 and November 2, 2002. After the 2003 elections , she lost her seat in the Knesset, but was able to return there in January 2006 when she replaced Avraham Shochat . In February of the same year, however, she resigned and was replaced by Orna Angel , who herself was a member of parliament for only one week.

Before the 2006 election , Landver joined Jisra'el Beitenu and was placed seventh on the list. The party won eleven seats and was able to keep her seat in the Knesset. She was re-elected to parliament in the 2009 elections, and on March 31 of that year she was appointed Minister for the Reception of Migrants.

Landver has one child, is widowed and lives in Ashdod.
