The Israeli general election in 2003 was the election for the 16th Knesset , the parliament of Israel . It took place on January 28, 2003. Ariel Sharon and his Likud won the election as the strongest party with 29.39 percent of the vote. There was a 1.5 percent hurdle in the election .
