Chadash ( Hebrew חד״ש) is a list association of socialist parties in Israel . Chadash is Hebrew and means "new", but is also the acronym for HaChasit haDemokratit leSchalom uleShiwjon (Hebrew: החזית הדמוקרטית לשלום ולשוויון), which means Democratic Front for peace and equality . The full Arabic name isal-Jabha ad-Dīmuqrātiyya li-s-Salām wa-l-Musāwāh / al-Ǧabha ad-dīmuqrāṭīya li-s-Salām wa-l-Musāwāh , the commonly used short form is al-Jabha (the front). Chadash in its current form was founded in 1977 before the Knesset election and consisted mainly of the pro- Soviet and largely Palestinian-Arab New Communist List .

Chadasch advocates the evacuation of all Jewish settlements and the withdrawal from the areas occupied by Israel in the course of the Six Day War in 1967 . Chadasch also supports workers' rights. Most of the voters in Chadash are Jewish and Arab communists . The party had close ties to the PLO despite an official ban before 1993 .

In 1992, Chadash supported the government of Yitzchak Rabin , but without officially being part of the government coalition. In 1996, Chadasch formed a joint list with Balad . The electoral alliance with the Arab nationalist Ta'al in the 2003 election brought the party, in particular from the Jewish communist minority, the accusation of damaging the party's principle of coexistence.

For the 2015 Knesset election , Chadasch merged with the United Arab List , Balad and Ta'al to form the United List . The electoral alliance won a total of thirteen parliamentary seats.

For the Knesset election in April 2019 , Chadasch formed a joint list with Ta'al that received four seats. For the election in September 2019 , a joint list of the four Arab parties Balad, Ra'am, Ta'al and Chadasch will again run.
