Mifleget ha-Merkas

Mifleget ha-Merkas ( Hebrew מפלגת המרכז, Party of the Center ) was a political party in Israel .

history

The party was founded on February 23, 1999 by Jitzchak Mordechai , Hagai Meirom , David Magen , Dan Meridor , Nissim Zvili , Eli'ezer Sandberg and Amnon Lipkin-Schachak . The aim was to create a basis for a moderate coalition, either with the right under Binyamin Netanyahu's Likud or with the left under Ehud Baraks Avoda . In the 1999 elections, the party received 5% of the vote and 6 seats. The party took part in the ruling coalition consisting of the Shas , National Religious Party , Jisra'el ba-Alija , Meretz-Jachad and Jisra'el Achat parties . Mordechai became Minister of Transport, while Lipkin-Shahak became Minister of Tourism. However, after Mordechai left the party, the collapse of the same began, so that she no longer ran for the 2003 election.
