SoftPC and SoftWindows are emulators of the x86 hardware.
history
These emulators were developed by Insignia Solutions . Originally they were for UNIX - Workstations thought to MS-DOS programs run.
The software was later ported to Mac OS and also offered the option of using Windows . The version for the Atari ST / Falcon was never released.
The package consisting of SoftPC and Windows (3.x, 95, 98) was called SoftWindows, although it was also possible to install Windows in a SoftPC environment with additional effort.
In early 1996 Insignia was the market leader in this product area, but competition was increased by Connectix with Virtual PC . Insignia sold this product line to FWB Software in October 1999 to focus on future Java implementations for mobile devices.
FWB continued to sell SoftWindows until March 2001. The same company also offered the similar software RealPC until 2003.
