Softronic is a manufacturer of rail vehicles based in Craiova in Romania . The company is mainly active in the Romanian and Hungarian markets, modernizing existing locomotives and offering the Phoenix and Transmontana electric locomotives and the Hyperion electric multiple unit .
history
Softronic was founded in Craiova in 1999 and initially dealt with the modernization of locomotives for the Romanian state railway CFR , most of which came from Electroputere . After the closure of the Electroputere plant in Craiova, Softronic also recruited numerous engineers from Electroputere. The subsidiary Softrans was founded in 2002, through which Softronic locomotives are leased. The production of own locomotives began in 2008 with the Softronic Phoenix. By 2013 Softronic had modernized around 200 locomotives; By 2014, 23 of its own locomotives had been built, eleven of which belong to Deutsche Bahn Cargo Romania . Softronic states that in the future it will also deliver locomotives to Austria , Sweden , Serbia , Bulgaria and Turkey . A Softronic Transmontana was on the road for test drives in Sweden from June to August 2015, followed by test drives with a Softronic Phoenix in Croatia in October 2015.

Softronic Phoenix
The Softronic Phoenix is a six-axle electric locomotive for alternating current with 25 kV and 50 Hz. Mechanically, it is based on the CFR series EA, which was built by ASEA from 1965 and from 1967 by Electroputere and is one of the most common locomotive types of the Romanian state railways. The electrical part, on the other hand, is a new development from Softronic, whereby the experience gained through the modernization of the locomotive could be used. The first two locomotives are designed for freight traffic with a top speed of 120 km / h; later a version for passenger traffic was also delivered, which can reach 200 km / h. Six Phoenix locomotives have been manufactured to date, the last of which left the Softronic plant in 2012.
Softronic Transmontana
Softronic has been offering the Transmontana since 2010, a six-axle electric locomotive that can be operated with alternating current of 25 kV and 50 Hz as well as 15 kV and 16 ⅔ Hz. The machine is the first locomotive manufactured in Romania to have three-phase asynchronous motors , has a top speed of 160 km / h and is approved in Romania and Hungary.
Softronic Hyperion
The Hyperion is a four-part electric multiple unit introduced by Softronic in 2012. It has Jakobs bogies and can be used with 3 kV direct current as well as alternating current with 25 kV and 50 Hz. The drive bogies are located in the two end cars; the maximum speed is 160 km / h. In August and September 2014, a six-week trial run from Craiova via Bucharest to Constanța took place for test and advertising purposes . The responsible railway company was the Softronic subsidiary Softrans.
