Solan ( Hindi सोलन Solan ) is a city ( Municipal Council ) in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh .
The city is located in the Siwaliks at an altitude of 1532 m . Solan is the administrative seat of the district of the same name . In the 2011 census, the population was 39,256. Of these, 93% were Hindus , 2.9% Muslim and 2.6% Sikhs .
Solan used to be the capital of the princely state of Bhagat .
