Solon is a German solar module manufacturer . The company became known as the listed Solon AG for solar technology based in Berlin , later renamed Solon SE , then re-established as SOLON Energy GmbH , finally reorganized under the holding company Solon International LL FZE based in the United Arab Emirates . Company profile

In addition to the production of solar modules in the subsidiaries Solon Photovoltaik GmbH in Berlin and Solon Nord GmbH in Greifswald , the company had other subsidiaries in Italy (Solon SpA, formerly SE Project srl, solar modules), America (Solon Corporation, solar modules), and Freiburg (Solon Investments GmbH, project planning of large solar power plants). In 2009 Solon had a production capacity for solar modules (PV modules) of 435 megawatt peak (MWp) (2008: 450 MWp; 2007: 210 MWp; 2006: 130 MWp) and with a total production of 132 MWp (2008: 176 MWp; 2007: 118 MWp; 2006: 84 MWp) the group was able to maintain its position as one of the largest solar module manufacturers in Germany and Europe. history

Foundation, expansion

The manufacturer of solar modules and supplier of turnkey solar power plants was founded on November 27, 1996 by Saleh El-Khatib , Birgit Flore , Johannes Grosse Boymann , Paul Grunow , Stefan Krauter , Alexander Voigt and the Wuseltronik GbR Research and Development ( Reiner Lemoine , Stefan Fütterer , Peter Fischer, Martin Sauter , Jürgen Hiller ) and went public in 1998 . Solon AG was the first listed company for solar technology in Germany. It was listed in the TecDAX with ISIN : DE0007471195 from March 20, 2006 to September 18, 2009 and since 2007 also in the ÖkoDAX .

Solon built around 80 percent of the solar systems installed on old and new federal buildings when the federal government moved to Berlin.

On September 1, 2006, the photovoltaic power plant on Gut Erlasee near Arnstein went into operation. In 2006 around 14,000 MWh of electricity were produced there.

In December 2007 Solon AG acquired a further share in the Austrian solar cell manufacturer Blue Chip Energy GmbH.

On December 8, 2008, Solon AG for solar technology was transformed into a European company SE .

On December 15, 2008, Solon SE took over the Italian company Estelux srl and planned to build a plant for the production of solar silicon in Ferrara, northern Italy .

shrinkage

In 2010 Solon SE parted with its production subsidiary Solon Hilber Technologie GmbH in Steinach am Brenner . The Solon Mover has been very successfully produced here in recent years - a two-axis tracking photovoltaic system for large-scale photovoltaic power plants, which at that time pioneered the market for tracking systems.

Solon SE also parted with its subsidiary Solon Inverters AG in Uznach in Switzerland in 2010 . Inverters have been developed here in recent years.

insolvency

On December 13, 2011, Solon filed for bankruptcy. An application for insolvency has also been filed for the subsidiaries SOLON Photovoltaik GmbH, SOLON Nord GmbH and SOLON Investments GmbH.

takeover

On March 6, 2012, Microsol International LL FZE (India, based in the United Arab Emirates) acquired core components of SOLON SE and founded SOLON Energy GmbH. The new company had the functions of a holding company with a subsidiary in Berlin (SOLON Modules GmbH) and sister companies in the USA (SOLON Corporation) and Italy (SOLON SpA).

At the Intersolar 2012 in Munich, SOLON Energy GmbH was “one of the first providers” to present an energy storage system for single-family homes. The company received an Intersolar Award at the trade fair for the SOLquick mounting system.

Production cessation, renewed bankruptcy

As of September 2013, production at the Berlin location was discontinued.

On March 6, 2014, the company announced that its headquarters in Berlin would be closed. 230 jobs are lost as a result. The headquarters of the Solon Group is relocated to the United Arab Emirates .

In September 2014 Solon Energy GmbH and Solon Modules GmbH filed for bankruptcy.

Restructuring of Solon International

By realigning the business areas and structures, the Solon Group relocated its headquarters to the United Arab Emirates. Microsol International LL FZE now operates as Solon International LL FZE and produces solar modules (4 production lines) and solar cells (2 production lines) in Fujairah (UAE).

The solar modules are sold for Northern Europe through the SOLON SpA German branch in Berlin . For southern Europe, sales are from Carmignano di Brenta Padova (Italy).

Furthermore, the project business as well as the area of Operation & Maintenance (O&M) is also operated via the respective European branches.
