The Solow Building is a skyscraper in New York City . The building is currently (as of 2019) the 66th tallest in New York. It is located in Midtown Manhattan , in close proximity to the famous Plaza Hotel and Central Park at 9 West 57th Street .
The 210 meter high building was opened in 1974 after a construction period of six years. It is particularly noticeable because of its white concrete and the black-tinted window front. Its shape is also extraordinary. The north and south sides of the 50-story building are arched inwards. As a result, the floor area decreases with increasing height. There are three cross struts on both the east and west sides of the high-rise, which are intended to give the structure additional stability.
The tenants include the holding companies Apollo Management and Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co.
Due to the dense sea of houses in Manhattan, the building is not particularly noticeable. The best view of the Solow Building is from the southeast corner of Central Park.
